Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring, Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God. Refrain Standing, standing, Standing on the promises that cannot fail, Refrain Standing on the promises I now can see Refrain Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Refrain Standing on the promises I cannot fall, Refrain “Standing on the Promises” was written and composed, in 1886, while
Russell Carter was serving as a professor in the Pennsylvania Military
Academy, a school in which he had been a member of the first
graduating class. The rhythmic martial tone of the hymn’s music
possibly reflects Mr. Carter’s military academy experience 2nd Corinthians 1:20 - For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.
